		<description> ‘DE NATUUR KEEK TERUG.’

Wild Nature in the City

Lamp

Natuur is veel zintuiglijker.

Samen wilde planten verzamelen:

Ludmillia Rodrigues i.s.m.

Creation:
 * Title: Raw Space as design photographic works: (1987-present)
Very early, while on the city's fringe (Amsterdam and Barcelona), I got the idea of Raw Space as Design.
It all started with 'comfort zones'. I photographed the places where I lived and worked, places I felt personal ties with.I wanted to show the essence of those spaces, the room to experiment. These were unfinished, pioneering places, places that invited you to create, to go beyond the visible. One could see the constant movement of creation versus destruction. This produced a sense of wholeness, of connecting with nature. To show the importance and beauty of these cityscapes and still lives I call these works ‘Raw Space as Design’.
This serial includes at this moment 45 photographs.

&#60;img src="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/beauty.jpg" width="320" height="240" width_o="320" height_o="240" src_o="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/beauty_o.jpg" data-mid="13439805"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;&#60;img src="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/DSCN2324.jpg" width="320" height="240" width_o="320" height_o="240" src_o="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/DSCN2324_o.jpg" data-mid="13439811"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

*Publication of my photographs and statement in the Nirov Magazine.

*Title: White and Dirty Installation
An other expression of ‘Raw Space as Design’, titled ‘White and Dirty’, was an installation consisting of found white materials, poetry and projections, challenging the audience to participate. They could write texts in space using an overhead projector, enabling the visitors to not just be part of chaos, but also making them aware of the poetic side of raw creation.

NewLand
For the Newland project I travelled together with Klaas Kuitenbrouwer to New York and Iceland. New York is the ultimate city: fast, raw, modern, anonymous, technological. Iceland is the ultimate wilderness: rough, mostly uninhabited, vulcanic. We had discovered certain
similarities in the way we love the big city and rough nature. Of both places the rawness is attractive as well as the feeling of space. The intellectual freedom entices us in the city, the physical freedom in nature.

Nowadays, as a result of the media landscape and the availability of fast transport, the experience of hopping from one reality to another has become more and more common. Traveling has become more like ‘zapping’ . In the same way films on different channels are edited
into a new one by the experienced TV –watcher with his remote control, physically distant places are knitted together in one’s experience by the fast traveler. We want to investigate this phenomenon.

The flight from Amsterdam to New York stops over in Reykjavik. We zap ourselves from the New York wilderness to the Icelandic wild, places we perceive as connected because they are complementary. We approachthese places with a similar attitude and as artists we transplant with sound, words, film and photographs aspects between New York and Iceland. In this way we create NewLand, a place that satisfies our desire to be a pioneer.

NewLand was created in 1998 it was the first step in the third direction.

Test-Portal international now Art festivals.
General:
Working as an artist/curator I created the Test-Portal International nowArt exhibition in 2003 and 2005, both editions involving the participation of about forty artists Test-Portal international now-Art took place in the gigantic Docklandshal at the NDSM-wharf in Amsterdam.
Of special note was the architectural treatment of this vast space: creating a fluid, flowing structural shape.
A city of poetry by night, a transparant formation based on a dynamic principle. A place to celebrate the individual as well as the whole.

Test-Portal 2003
During the first Test-Portal I strived to bring an experience to both artists and visitors alike. That combination was very important! Artists were all assigned a part of the enormous space to present their individual works, their worlds or philosophies. But they also transgressed their (assigned) space, crossing borders. I stimulated cooperation between artists and they in turn annexed new, unexpected space, their interaction producing an unpredictable and exiting result. This was essential to Test-Portal: openness towards the unexpected.

http://www.test-portal.nl/tp03/index2.html

Test-Portal 2005: City with Breathing space.
Test-Portal 2005 researched the concept of "Space" on several levels. The way in which this was addressed was -and still is- contemporary: how much space do we let others have? Where are the borders? Who or what controls them?

&#60;img src="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/DSC_0064.jpg" width="670" height="315" width_o="709" height_o="334" src_o="http://payload17.cargocollective.com/1/5/177584/2653900/DSC_0064_o.jpg" data-mid="13904797"  border="0" align="left"/&#62;

What space can an artist create in a progressively compartmentalized but globalise society?
Can art have an essential, critical influence on our social-political reality by becoming borderless?

'Borders' are in fact entirely fictitious illusions, besides being interchangeable and different to everybody!

A globalise world and traveling on the internet make it clear: there are no borders, except for those we create ourselves. As old manmade boundaries are not self-evident anymore, it is interesting to rediscover what binds us universally. To do this we should readjust our concept of our bonds.

*Founder of the Test-Portal now Art gallery 2009- 2010
 www.test-portal.nl
With the Test-Portal now Art gallery I experimented with the concept of 'gallery', exploring the boundaries of what a gallery can be. A place that is as much a gallery as an art institute. There were 'plain' exhibitions (just showing works) but also thematic exhibitions and exhibitions inviting audience participation. The experiment depended on subsidies but also sales.

Ten exhibitions
Test-Portal now Art gallery led to ten very different exhibitions.
An overview:
* Opening exhibition with Stanza, pieterWpostma, and myself.
*“Wild nature in the City” part 1, with the artists: Ernst Coppejans en Marc Driessen

Wild nature in the City part 2 with Bodine Koopmans, Rob van Betuw, Sanne Thunissen and myself. Also participation by bloggers, like Femke Lutgerink on Detroit, Koert van Mensvoort on Next Nature and Claud Biemans on wild vegetables and the biodiversity of a city.
See what we explored http://www.test-portal.nl/blog/?cat=42

*”Emotive male nudity” with Milan Gies.
*”We want our Utopia now” with Merel Zwart.
*”Looking at the pain of others” with Mieke Bal, Marjolein Edwall, Juliette Erkelens and Sanne Thunissen.
*”The inner world of” with MiaMia, Bart Sabel, Marina Metaal, Bethany de Forest and Rob van Betuw.
*An exhibition with the artists Monique Eller, Milan Gies , Riette Wanders.
*”the city, a living organism!” with Stanza, Renata de Andrade.
*”Ins Blaue Hinein” with Marc Koolen, Rombout Oomen, Janneke de Jong.

2011/ 2012
I focus on my personal photographic Art work. The subject "Wild nature in the City" has stolen my heart.

<description>There are not as many walls as you think. And they are breaking down before your eyes. The city creeps into nature, and cultures mingle, while reality and digital-reality morph rapidly into each other... and imagination sneaks in too, something I love.
Everything underneath the image is interpretation, feeling: mostly inner space (which I, paradoxically, want to show on the outside). They are tangible symbols for intangible longing or feelings. An attempt at wholeness.Contemporary, because the landscape feels partly digital. The work is literally about travel, but also about movements on the web. As such, it reaches beyond the horizon.

<description>No-land is a photographic installation and is an ongoing project.

Introduction
In a dynamic poetic installation I bring together different forms of experiencing space. It is about the mood of an un reclaimed or abandoned space where one can reinvent oneself time and again. This space urges one to discover, to fantasize and create. Not much is fixed yet, there are traces to be found that incite the mind - traces of an eventful past and a distant future.

I apply to it the following keywords: raw / un reclaimed / original
In combination with: digital / futuristic / cosmic.

Motivation
I often long to move on to a new era or a different space. A place that isn’t all too defined: No –Land. Even before I started making photos I looked for these places.
It is a returning theme in all of my work. It is about raw spaces that are just there for a moment of time, but feel very tangible to me. Photos of abandoned urban places. Abstract coloured levels, movements of light, recorded by my camera. Solidified paths of energy, data and traffic. The feeling of being en-route in an endless space. Primordial landscape where space is defined by itself.
All these photographs have some sense of desolation, but also represent romance, adventure, and escaping the mundane. No –Land is also a state of mind and there is no religion, no politics, no state.

The form of the installation
The basis of the installation is extremely large photographic prints displayed
double-sided light boxes (175 x 275 x 30 cm). These light boxes can stand upright
on the ground. The installation uses four light boxes.
Objects to sit or lay on. And a overhead projector where the public can draw or write on to project their additive in the space. No-Land explicitly poses this question to its public: What do you leave behind for the next passer-by, in a land that starts allover again?
Together it makes a strong atmospheric environment where you can walk through or stay in a while!

A special plan focused on the location will be made.
No-Land can grow or shrink it depends of the place. Even on box can express the concept! In a dialogue with me and the organizers of the exhibition also other artist
can add something by way of a performance or an intervention in the space.

The project gets revisited regularly since 2007 and now. Please contact if you are interested: patricia@mediakaal.nl

The audience and fresh (international) artists are challenged to react to this space. Every exhibition site invites a new experiment.

<description>I am living at the border of the City Amsterdam. Between the Airport Schiphol, a lake called New Lake, the motorway A4, and a nature area called, The Oeverlanden. I observe this area with my camera and display this contemporary landscape with it hybrid forms.
