Motivation

In a dynamic poetic installation I want to bring together different forms of experiencing space, that I previously researched. It is about the mood of an unreclaimed or abandoned space where one can reinvent oneself time and again. This space urges to discover, to fantasize and create. Not much is fixed yet, there are traces to be found that incite the mind. Traces of an eventful past and a distant future. Other artists and the public are challenged to react to the space. I apply to it the following keywords: raw / unreclaimed / emotional space combined with the words: digital / futuristic / cosmic.

"The fairy-tale space of the child, in which everything still seemed possible, is by education literally and figuratively an introduction into the space of the grown-ups, brought in conformity with the established space of the adult society, that has expressed itself scientifically in geography. Because the juvenile space must find it's bearings by the quarters of the compass of the official space, the private spaces of the child - all the attics, gardens, woods and secret places where it at once with the seclusion of it's favorite spot found the oneness - are banished to the periphery of the culture." Ton Lemaire in "The philosophy of the landscape".

Because I did not want and do not want to lose this juvenile space, I found this periphery of the culture, and have been staying there these twenty years. There reign chaos and freedom. They are often unclaimed domains between town and country, no-land, my Utopia. In these placesI experience the poetry of buildings under attack by nature. Between the tall trees the highway traffic rushes by and I see the latest neon signs reflected in the cow ditch. The old granary in Amsterdam was called The Castle when it was stillsquatted, you could play princess in there. The highway by the building where I live we call the sea. A bunker on the same site with wonderful acoustics forms the lungs of the premises, that in itself is named The Civil Ascension Authority / Rijkshemelvaartdienst, as a superlative of the neighbouring Civil Aviation Authority / Rijksluchtvaartdienst. Ascension Day of course still is a day for a party. These places have consciously and unconsciously imprinted themselves on my works of art.

Assignment

NO - LAND belongs to everybody. There is no religion, no fuzz, no excess of information. NO -LAND is space that has just started and that will never be finished. A space that time and time again can be determined. To make visitors a part of NO -LAND in the installation there will be some sort of grafitty wall where everyone may leave signs. Signs for self, but also for others, for future visitors. THIS IS THE QUESTION: What do you leave behind for the next passer-by, in a land that starts allover again? See live additions
